Sense and Sensible Footwear

Monday, October 31st, 2005

So, Bitch Ph.D. hosts a rollicking discussion on should she or shouldn’t she buy some outrageously expensive but totally kicking boots and all I can think when I look at the pretty footwear is:
If I wore those, I’d be flat on my behind faster than you could say Whoopsie Daisy!
I am such a klutz, sometimes, […]

More fun with typos

Monday, October 31st, 2005

In honour of the many typos I’m finding as I mark essays, I share with you the latest discovery: a typo in my Firefox weather toolbar. Today’s officially “Mistdy” — I think I like it!

Sore, Slow and Sweet

Sunday, October 30th, 2005

I’m recovering from Wednesday’s senseless sprain though the finger’s still a bit tender at two spots and definitely too swollen to slip off my wedding rings. I’m trying not to use it as much as normal which has cut into my typing and writing time. So marking’s getting done but just not as fast as […]

Renaissance =/ Reformation

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

After four midterms in the nearly complete pile o’ marking have come up with some strange viewpoint that conflates the Reformation into the Renaissance (i.e. the Reformation results from the Renaissance directly, not just as a longterm, related, possibly part of the consequences of, no, it’s so integral that it doesn’t even rate its own […]

I hope it’s sprained

Wednesday, October 26th, 2005

I tried to take the dogs for a walk after tea but hurt myself badly. Ozzie lunged when we got across the street and the leash wrapped around and twisted my ring finger and it is really sore and I can’t type well. I have an ice pack and will take some advil. owwwwwwwww!

Secondhand Success

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

Just received a happy email from a former student. He’s been accepted into a doctoral program in Scotland after a long slog harkening back to our undergraduate program, through M.A. degrees abroad and, in another interdisciplinary field back here, and now, to where he wants to be.
It’s a testament to persistence and the start of […]

Revival

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

Everyone slept through the night. It’s a miracle!
Eldest’s cold was bad enough to keep her home. She was stretched out in the recliner beside my computer desk until I ordered her over to the couch for a nap. I’m actually contemplating getting thoughtful work done — something beyond the order of reviewing Gregory of Tours […]

Will it be 3/3?

Monday, October 24th, 2005

Eldest and youngest both managed to go to school happily enough and there were no calls from the office. Was able to get into the office and meet with students in and amongst my sleep-deprived funk. But eldest’s odd feeling in the stomach has returned and I foresee a bout of stomach flu for her […]

Still no sleep

Monday, October 24th, 2005

Another early morning wake-up. Youngest had woken at four asking for cold medicine, then spat up the pills all over her comforter. She didn’t manage to get back to sleep until I brought her down to the couch and tucked her in there.
So it’s a good thing I slept in so late on Friday because, […]

Another sleepless night

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

Youngest came down with the stomach flu that’s been going around. She was in enormous discomfort until about two when she’d finally cleared herself out and settled down to sleep. Sort of. She woke me at 2:30, 4:30 and 6:30 before I gave up and hauled the pair of us downstairs to the living room.
Zombie-like, […]
