I’m on the program for a conference this fall. I’m extra excited because the plenary speaker is Terry Jones. He’s always great to hear, so I’m actually planning to get there early enough to enjoy his presentation (although if I end up presenting on Sunday morning, there might be some back-and-forth between conference city and […]

Stopped by the office this morning and there they were! (Sorry for the lousy cellphone camerawork.) Of course, I had to unpack and sort all my books. Everything’s pretty well unpacked, though I still have to go through a few odd bits and pieces, hang up the artwork as well as organize my desk. […]

Spent some time today online and on the phone, switching services for our move and we hit a surprising snag. We’re only moving 4 kilometres by road and yet Bell Canada claims that we can’t retain our old phone number as the new house is in a different switching centre area. WTH?
Am not amused but […]

Good News the first: We are all healthy and were productive today. Kids were back in school and grown-ups got things done. Like purging broken or outgrown toys from youngest’s room and scoping out dining room sets.
Good News the second: My office will get shelves early next week!
Bad News the only: Art the campus carpenter […]

Yesterday, eldest came home sick. And she was very sick, indeed.
This morning, Mike confessed he didn’t feel all that well.
Half an hour ago, youngest’s teacher called us up with the news that she wasn’t feeling good.
Now I’m beginning to wonder how my stomach’s sitting. . . .
Wish us luck?

Thanks to my family for heroically coming to my rescue last night and helping me clean out my desk and move the last boxes up to my new office.
Boos to the university for completely screwing up my moving timetable leaving me in a new office with no shelves, no ETA for same and no place […]

I’m working away busily moving stuff upstairs to my soon-to-be new office (which still has no shelves). I’ve piled boxes full of books on the desk (stacks so high they almost reach the 11 ft. high ceiling). I’ve been moving the file cabinet contents drawer by drawer. And it’s still not all done.
Which normally wouldn’t […]

Both at the office and at home, this week is full speed ahead in the purge and pack marathon. I should be completely moved at the office by the end of the week. After recycling enough offprints and old notes to fill a blue bin standing chest-height, I have more papers to purge tomorrow as […]

We took the girls to swimming this morning where they got the good news that eldest passed her Master’s Swimming program so it’s on to the lifesaving training when she’s ready. Youngest still has to work on Star One and is a bit discouraged, but doesn’t have half the skills yet to proceed. Since it […]

I love teaching. I love research and writing (I vacillate between loving it and hating it, depending on how well my current project is progressing — since I’m just proofreading an article before sending it off for consideration, currently the love is strong). I even love a lot of academic administrative work.
But if I never […]
