Perhaps it was Cruel
In the medieval history quizzes (you remember, for that class of nigh-unto 100 students?) I am marking, I have sequential “fill-in-the-blanks” that are properly answered with “The Fourth Crusade” and “The Fourth Lateran Council.”
1) In 1204 the leaders of __________________ made a “detour” and conquered Constantinople instead.
2) Innocent III presided over _______________ in 1215 which produced a comprehensive set of canons to reform both clergy and laity.
So far the best responses are, respectively, “England” and “Cannon Law.”

Can’t wait to see if you get any more “good” responses! Don’t give up the good fight

What was cruel about those questions? They are unambiguous.

I’d think so, too. But when the student realized they were all about Fourth this and Fourth that, some of them were very perturbed!
