We had a lot of fun in Warsliks Woods, but had to leave the zone when encumbered by loot and coin. After selling and banking in Firionia Vie, I ported around to pick up my level 29 spells and some gorgeous fine plate armour for Trystahnn (thanks to Cobble for the smithing). We reached level 29 quickly thereafter and used my new group teleport spells to head out West. West Karanas, that is. We hoped to find Ryshon Hunsti. A few levels ago we'd hunted in Najena and obtained a piece for the Ghoulbane quest. But Ryshon proved elusive. Spending more than five hours in the zone over two sessions, he never appeared.

Trystahnn and I consoled ourselves by working on his faction with the Qeynos paladin guild (necessary for later quests such as the Aegis of Life. To achieve the amiable standing Trystahnn needed, we decided to kill bandits who inhabited a camp near Ryshon's reported spawn point (to loot their sashes and turn them in). We slew dozens of bandits and brigands during our stay, once being surprised by a werewolf that quickly fell to our attacks, while still granting us experience.

Twice I tracked a ghoul messenger who also seemed a worthy opponent. Our first hunting took us on a long run in the western end of the zone before we were able to engage and battle the undead creature. For our second encounter, the ghoul politely showed up at our camp, where Trystahnn dealt him mighty blows with his Ward Undead spell. After a while, we got a little cocky. Trystahnn offered to show me the ogre camp in the zone and when we arrived, seeing a blue-conning shaman and two green guards, we thought they would be easy opponents. Were we ever wrong! The shaman cast with all his might, darkness covered my eyes and I was quickly slain. Trystahnn lasted longer, but eventually he too died. Fortunately, we'd taken the precaution of binding ourselves in Qeynos earlier, so it was a short run to retrieve our corpses (having to zone once to evade the wrath of the cyclops, Choon). A kind adventurer helped us locate our corpses, buffed us with Skin Like Nature, and didn't once laugh at us for our stupidly overconfident mistake. Chastened, we stuck near the bandit camp for the rest of our time in the Karanas, collecting many bandit sashes to improve faction with the Qeynos paladins, which Trystahnn turned in. Bored with fighting greens, we returned to Kunark.

We made arrangements to meet up with some friends, a 26th level Ogre Warrior, Goamok Nonstop and a 31st level Wizard, Uxbar. Unfortunately, only Goamok was able to make our rendezvous in the Overthere. Tonight's target would be the dungeon of Dalnir. We passed some time waiting for Uxbar to show by fighting inside the forest giant fortress in Warsliks Woods. With Goamok in our group, we boasted an amazing amount of melee power: the giants quickly fell beneath a furious rain of blows, both physical and magical. During our stay in the fortress we looted many weapons and a fair amount of coin, while Goamok reached level 27.

Unable to wait for our wizard friend any longer, our threesome set off for the entrance to Dalnir. I cast a precautionary Spirit of Wolf before we zoned, knowing that in a dungeon zone I'd not be able to recast that spell which keeps us ahead of many angry monsters. When we entered Dalnir, there were only two other adventurers in the zone: sadly underutilized for such an interesting dungeon! Goamok, who knew Dalnir well, volunteered to pull after quaffing a shrink potion to guard against getting stuck inside the maze of corridors. He kept us happily occupied killing a succession of smoldering goos which poisoned Trystahnn and Goamok more than once, but always lost the battle. We also battled some of the coerced residents (we found the Tier'dal cleric healing herself a challenge).

The most amusing denizens we met had to be the ravenous nibblers. Floating in midair, their massive jaws gaped wide in combat. Despite their horrific appearance, they were never too much for the three of us. Our evening in Dalnir might have long continued but for some new arrivals pulling an enormous train of coerced residents. We fled the zone, Goamok and Trystahnn reduced to just a few bubbles of health. The evening having well advanced, we decided it was time to call it a night. Here was where my newfound druid spells were put to good use. After healing and medding, I teleported our party to the West Commons where Goamok camped and we all said our good nights.

  Conclusions from this week's adventures:

  1. Level 29 is a wonderful level for druids even if I do get a lot of requests for teleports.
  2. The most maddening part of quests has to be waiting around for a random spawn.
  3. Attacking without preparation is a surefire way to a quick death.
  4. Grouping with friends adds variety, security and makes for some fun groupchat.
  5. Checking out a dungeon is a fun variation to a druid's normal outdoors-only routine.
